Tombac is an alloy that was an attempt to emulate silver, in fact it's a mixture of zinc and copper. This example has a stunning floral design and still has it's loop.
Designed in the 1830s and at first rejected as spherical bullets had been used for over 300 years, this bullet had a wooden insert. Although effective it was rejected by the military as it was 2 part and it was judged to be too complicated to make.
This copper alloy harness/bridle mount has a fantastic owl design. It would have been gold in colour.
